What type of project will you be doing: youth internship, entrepreneurship experience, senior experience, or service learning?
I will be doing an entrepreneurship experience.
Describe the steps you will need to do to complete your project.
In order to complete the project I will be involved in the process of designing and building a 1200 to 2000 square foot shop or home. Here is an outline of what the steps involved will be for completing my senior experience.
Designing and creating a blueprint
Create a model of the project to be built
Stake out project and have foundation work completed
Framing of project
Mechanicals (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC)
Sheetrock and Painting
Finish work (Flooring, Trim Work, Cabinetry Installation)
What subject(s) or topic(s) do you expect to learn about through your experience?
I expect to learn the process of building a shop or home. I expect to see my skills improve in the trade of building a house. I would expect my math skills to play a large part in the completion of this project as well.
What skills or understanding will you develop and/or demonstrate?
I will learn how to manage my time in an efficient way. I will learn people skills when having to work alongside sub contractors. I will learn basic hands on building skills. I will also be gaining a work ethic that I will be able to take with me after this project is finished.
What kind of product do you envision?
I envision a completed shop or home.
Where would you look for a mentor?
I would look for a licensed building contractor. My Uncle, Troy Trygstad, is a licensed contractor and I will be using his knowledge to mentor me through my project.
What do you hope to learn about yourself?
I hope to learn what I takes to build a house, I hope to learn how to manage my time more efficiently. I also hope learn new skills, like using certain tools and seeing what processes are done during the building process.
What most excites you about your proposed Endeavor?
It excites me to be able to learn skills that I can take with me into the work force. For example, communication skills, organization skills and problem solving.
